What is “authentic” community engagement, and how does “authentic” community engagement help nonprofit organizations in fulfilling their mission? In this Learning Lab, participants will explore what it means to authentically meet the needs of and advocate for the communities that their organizations touch. Participants will look beyond the idea of being connected to their communities and stakeholders, and will take a deep dive into tools and strategies needed to deeply engage their constituents, stakeholders, partners, and colleagues.
Participants will leave the session with: 1) strategies on how to effectively engage with and serve the different community groups that their organization touches 2) a working draft of a community engagement plan.
This Learning Lab is ideal for: Community Engagement Managers, Program Managers, and other staff members who perform community engagement roles in their organizations.
Facilitator Information: Juanita White is the Community Engagement Manager for Momentum Nonprofit Partners. Prior to serving Momentum, she worked as the Community Building Manager for the Binghampton Development Corporation, leading its efforts to bring change to an urban community. Juanita has also spent more than twenty-five years of service in child welfare, juvenile justice, after school education, health and child advocacy as an administrator, manager, supervisor, practitioner, advocate, trainer, and consultant.
