The Orpheum Theatre Group Education department seeks to hire a passionate, innovative, and dedicated individual to join their growing team as Manager of Education Engagement. The Manager of Education Engagement will work closely with the Vice President of Education to create, develop, and execute new socially conscious programming as part of the Orpheum’s ongoing efforts to expand its educational offerings while serving the entire Memphis community. Through building partnerships, collaborating on a variety of engagement opportunities, and providing access to the broadest possible reach, we aim to use the arts to create hope, compassion, and inspiration for the people of Memphis. The ideal candidate is a visionary with a “roll up your sleeves and dig in attitude” that is equally at home when collaborating with everyone from young people to community leaders to board members. Candidates should have the ability to dream big and act locally in service to that dream.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• New Programming Design and Execution
o Work closely with Vice President of Education on creation, design, and implementation of all new programs and initiatives.
o Create program models and curriculum, schedules, and registrations.
o Lead programs and workshops as necessary.
o Recruit and engage with participants, their families, community partners, and other key collaborators.
o Identify continued needs for new programs, growth, expansion, and potential partners.
• Student Matinee and Entertainment for All Series Production Management
o Assist VP of Education in scouting, securing, and building relationships with touring productions, producers, and agents.
o Identify needs for new programs and develop ideas.
o Manage all necessary tour arrangements (including schedules, travel, housing, special needs, etc.), and facilitate communication with artists, companies, agents, etc. for smooth presentations.
• Musical Theatre Institute and Technical Theatre Institute Camps Manager
o Assist with camp curriculum and schedule, in conjunction with Camp Director.
o Assist with hiring Teaching Artists, oversee contracts, and submit check requests in a timely manner.
o Work with Camp Director to supervise daily camp operations and supply/food needs.
• Additional Departmental Duties
o Attend full and department staff meetings.
o Contribute to team effort to accomplish department goals.
o Assist as needed on all education programs and additional duties assigned by VP of Education.
o Participate in the Annual Auction Gala.
• Bachelor’s Degree in the arts, education, or related field
• 3 years’ experience in arts or education
• 3 years’ experience in program design for youth
Creativity and imagination. Youth engagement and empowerment. The ability to multi-task, think outside the box, lead by example, and maintain trust. Flexibility. Excellent written and verbal communications, strong relationship building skills, strong working knowledge of Microsoft office suite, experience in contracts, working knowledge of backstage production and company management, teamwork, interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize time sensitive tasks, knowledge of theatre, dance, music, poetry, storytelling, and general arts and humanities. Bi-lingual capabilities preferred. Able to work flexible hours. Willing to work nights and weekends, as requested. Willing to travel up to three times per year.
Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands:
Employee required to spend 50% of time remaining in a seated position looking at a computer screen. 50% of time will be working events/running programs in a hands-on and energetic capacity. The employee will be required to stand, walk and lift up to 50 lbs. Employee will be in a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
